Overcoming Fear
(1 Samuel 16:14—18:16)
Guest speaker:
Sarah Lai
Sarah, youth alumni, former publicist in the music industry, now marketing freelancer and Christian writer residing in Nashville, TN returns to TCCC several years after graduating from college to share her testimony and encouragement on how God helped her overcome her fears and shyness to follow the dreams He put in her heart. These are some excerpts from today:
“I remember I was afraid to go to Jenks Super Kids Day, now I’m able to go to the symphony alone” (her friend cancelled last minute)
“How can a little rock kill Goliath?” Why do we sometimes think we are little rocks that can’t do anything?
“David ran out to meet Goliath.” We usually run the opposite direction in fear. Yet, “David was a teenager like you.”
“When I was in high school, I was afraid of speaking, but I discovered there is life outside your fear.”
She told a bike-riding story as an adult where she panicked and fell down a hill. “I was so afraid of getting hurt. That’s why I fell down and got hurt, when I gave in to fear.”
Instead, “jump into your fear and run towards the giant. Don’t let fear consume your life.”
She told her story about God calling her to move to Nashville not knowing anyone. She found some girls to live with and met people who said they would help her get in the music industry. Yet, 2 months later, no one seemed to help her after all. She came to a point of faith where she felt God tell her, “If you trust me, you’ll stay as long as I want you and whatever it takes.” She woke up the next day and got a job at a major record label, even without experience. Nobody even asked her GPA.
“David made mistakes along the way, but he kept going.”
