June 2 - Your Wedding Day?
June 2
Your Wedding Day?
Bible Reading: Genesis 2:18-23
18And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23And Adam said:“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
HOW OLD ARE you? Write your age here: _______
What's your full name? Write it here: __________________________________
Who is your best friend? Write it here: ________________________
Who is your husband or wife? Write his or her name here: _____________________
What? You say you're not married? Oh, OK, then, let's change the question:
Who will be your husband or wife? Write his or her name here: _________________
What? You say you don't know whom you're going to marry? And maybe you won't even get married--at least, not until you're, like, a hundred years old?
Well, OK. You aren't married. You may never get married. And even if you do someday get married, who knows who will be your husband or wife.
God does. That's right. God knows the answers to all the questions above. He knows how old you are. He knows your full name. He knows who your best friends are. He even knows--right now--if you're going to get married someday. He knows what day you're getting married. He knows whom you're going to marry.
Pretty spooky, huh? Not really. It is kind of cool, though. God knows your future husband or wife. He knows what that person had for breakfast today, just like he knows what you had for breakfast. (Cold pizza again?) And while you may not even have met your future husband or wife yet, while you may not even be interested in having a boyfriend or girlfriend yet, while you may not plan to get married (ever!), God wants to help you become a good husband or wife someday. He wants to help you make right choices now, because those right choices may prepare you to be a good husband or wife later. Not that God's in a hurry. He doesn't have to be. He knows exactly how much time He has to help you before your wedding day arrives!
REFLECT: Which of the following are true of you?
I'm not interested in the opposite sex yet. I don't know if I'll ever get married.
I don't plan to get married (ever). I don't know whom I am going to marry.
I hope to get married someday. God knows whom I am going to marry.
If you believe that God knows whom you will marry, how does that make you feel? (Check any that apply.)
Scared? Great?
Worried? Peaceful?
PRAY: Ask God to bless and protect the person you will someday marry (if that's in His plans for you) and to help you become a good Christian partner for that person.
